Don't be lulled into thinking your apartment landlord will be responsible for personal property lost as a result of theft, fire, flood or any other reason. Your Houston apartment lease may or may not include renter's insurance - and probably not.

If your lease does not include a provision for renter's insurance, purchase it from a reputable insurance agent.

Renter's insurance is typically available from all the big underwriters in the Houston area, including Allstate, State Farm and Farmer's Insurance Group.
